BSc (Hons) Psychology (University of Stellenbosch), with distinction
BSc Human Life Sciences (University of Stellenbosch)
I am a Clinical Psychologist registered as an independent practitioner with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). I have been in full time private practice since 2019.
Prior to entering the private sector, I interned at Sterkfontein Psychiatric Hospital, gaining exposure to psychology in a hospital setting. Here, I predominantly conducted forensic assessments for court purposes. With my background in Medical Criminalistics, this is an area of psychology that I am passionate about and continue to work in from time to time.
Thereafter, I spent my community service year at Tshwane District Hospital in Pretoria. This entailed working for the Gauteng Department of Health at tertiary hospital level. Psychology in this hospital setting has assisted in my current consulting work at Life Groenkloof Hospital and expanded my skills base working with medical psychology, a nuanced field on its own.
My Work
In private practice, I predominantly offer individual therapy to adults and teenagers (from 12+ years) who struggle with their mental wellbeing. In addition, I offer a range of psychological assessments covering emotional and personality functioning, as well as psychopathology.
My areas of interest include the following;
- Interpersonal/Relational Difficulties
- Mood (Depression/Anxiety/Bipolar)
- Trauma
- Eating Disorders
- Bariatric Patients
- Challenges specific to Adolescence
- Stress and Burnout
- LGBTQI+ Challenges
- Personality
- Addiction
Although the process of psychotherapy is difficult to communicate in only a paragraph, I value the therapeutic relationship in alleviating barriers to effect change. My role, amongst others, is to enable each individual to best assist themselves in living a functional and fulfilling life.
“Gather your mistakes, rinse them with honesty and self-reflection, let dry until you can see every choice and the regret becomes brittle, cover the entire surface with forgiveness. Remind yourself that you are human, and this too is a gift.”
